Ahilyanagar – May 2025 – Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), with the valuable support of NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) and Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT), successfully carried out the construction of watershed structures in Mathani village, as part of the ongoing Watershed Development Project.
This initiative was undertaken to combat the persistent issues of water scarcity, land degradation, and declining agricultural productivity in the drought-prone regions of Ahmednagar. A range of scientifically designed watershed interventions—including check dams, farm bunds, contour trenches, and gully plugs—were developed to facilitate rainwater harvesting, prevent soil erosion, and improve groundwater recharge.
These efforts have significantly contributed to increasing soil moisture retention, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, and ensuring a more sustainable use of natural resources. Importantly, the project was implemented through community participation, fostering a strong sense of ownership and stewardship among the villagers.
Farmers and local residents have already begun experiencing the benefits, with enhanced water availability for irrigation and domestic use, and a renewed optimism for improved crop yields and farming stability.
This collaborative endeavour reflects the shared commitment of BGVK, NABARD, and TPCDT to empower rural communities through sustainable water resource management and eco-friendly agricultural development.
