Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK) organised a vibrant Children’s Gathering on February 22 under the project “Livelihood, Nutrition and Education in Rural Maharashtra,” generously supported by Salesian Missions. The event brought together around 260 students from Classes 1 to 4 representing 11 villages in the Ahilyanagar region, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere of unity and celebration.
The gathering was envisioned as a platform to strengthen the holistic development of children enrolled in BGVK’s remedial education centres. While the project focuses on improving academic performance, nutrition, and overall well-being, this special event aimed to nurture creativity, confidence, and social interaction among rural children who often have limited exposure to such collective celebrations.
The programme was meticulously coordinated by the BGVK staff in collaboration with remedial class teachers who work closely with the children throughout the year. Don Bosco novices currently undergoing rural exposure in Ahilyanagar also played an active role in organising and animating the event. Their enthusiastic participation brought fresh energy and warmth to the gathering, strengthening the bond between the Salesian formation community and the rural families served by BGVK.
The day commenced with a warm welcome and an inspiring message from the Director, who encouraged the children to value education as a pathway to a brighter future. He reminded them that consistent effort, discipline, and self-belief can help them overcome challenges and fulfil their dreams.
One of the most engaging highlights of the programme was a lively magic show that filled the venue with excitement and wonder. The children watched with wide-eyed amazement, responding with laughter and applause. For many of them, it was a rare and memorable experience that added a special spark to the day.
Adding further enthusiasm were the action songs, games, and group dances curated and animated by the Don Bosco novices. Through interactive activities, the children were encouraged to participate wholeheartedly, promoting teamwork, coordination, and joyful self-expression. The atmosphere was vibrant as young voices sang together and small groups enthusiastically joined in the games.
A significant feature of the gathering was the cultural dance performances presented by each village group. Dressed in colourful attire, the children confidently showcased traditional dances reflecting their local culture. These performances not only entertained but also fostered pride in their heritage and strengthened inter-village camaraderie.
The celebration concluded with a sumptuous lunch served to all participants, providing a moment of fellowship and sharing. The Children’s Gathering stood as a powerful reminder that education extends beyond textbooks. Through initiatives like these, BGVK, with the support of Salesian Missions, continues to nurture confident, joyful, and well-rounded young individuals in rural Maharashtra.
