Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), in collaboration with Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT), organized an intensive training program on dryland agriculture for 60 farmers from 6 drought-affected villages in Partur Block, with the goal of promoting climate-resilient farming practices. Conducted under the guidance of agricultural expert Mr. Ransing, the training focused on key techniques including the selection of drought-resistant crops like millets and pulses, soil conservation methods such as mulching, contour bunding, and organic composting, and efficient water management strategies like rainwater harvesting and drip irrigation.
Farmers actively engaged in hands-on demonstrations and received seed kits for trial cultivation. As a result, participants reported a 30% reduction in water usage and improved soil fertility, along with a 20% cut in chemical fertilizer costs, making their farming practices more sustainable and cost-effective. The program received enthusiastic feedback, with one farmer from Agadgaon remarking, “I never knew my barren land could yield so much with these methods. This is revolutionary!” Building on this success, BGVK plans to establish model demonstration farms to extend these benefits to neighboring villages and promote widespread adoption of eco-friendly, resource-efficient agriculture.
