Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), under the Rural Health and Nutrition Project supported by Cummins India Foundation, organized impactful health awareness sessions for adolescent girls in the villages of Surwadi, Vadgaon & Ghadgemal in Phaltan block at Satara district. A total of 142 adolescent girls actively participated in these informative sessions.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Alka Pol, who welcomed the participants and introduced the resource person, Dr. Pol, a health expert known for her engaging and practical approach. The sessions aimed to educate young girls on vital topics such as personal hygiene, menstrual health, balanced nutrition, and adolescent well-being. Dr. Alka Pol addressed the physical and emotional changes during adolescence, elaborated on reproductive health, the importance of contraceptive awareness, and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Sensitive yet crucial issues like sexual abuse and substance abuse were also discussed, fostering awareness and encouraging open dialogue.
This awareness initiative empowered participants with essential knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and bodies. It also reinforced the importance of education and awareness in promoting long-term well-being among rural adolescent girls.
The program aligns with BGVK’s broader mission of holistic development and gender-sensitive empowerment. Building on this momentum, BGVK plans to conduct similar sessions in other villages across Ahmednagar to extend the benefits of health education to a wider adolescent population.
