007 Health Awareness Session for Adolescent Girls

Ahmednagar (Maharashtra), November 2022: The Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), organized a health awareness session for the adolescent girls in the Ahmednagar and Beed district in Maharashtra. 306 girls and children participated in the session held under the aegis of project ‘Holistic Empowerment for SHG women’ financially supported by Manos Unidas.

Mr. Sandip Berad (Project Coordinator- BGVK) welcomed the participants and resource person. Mrs. Suvarna Thorat, Vandana Chavhan and Sushila Jadhav were the resource person for this session. The objective of the workshop was to educate adolescent girls on personal health, hygiene and sanitation, menstrual cycle and diet and nutrition. The resource persons spoke about physical changes, social and psychological changes, vulnerability to reproductive health risks, reproductive health rights, contraceptives, sexually transmitted diseases, sexual abuse, drug and substance abuse etc. She also spoke about the safe and effective birth control methods.

This was followed by a question-and-answer session in which the participants asked questions which were answered by the resource person. After the session snacks were served to all. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Fr George D’Abreo (Director - BGVK).
