Raising health awareness in rural communities often requires creative communication approaches that go beyond traditional methods. Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), with generous support from Cummins India Foundation, organized a street play program on health awareness in the Ahmednagar region. The initiative used performance-based education to deliver important health messages directly to communities.
The street plays blended entertainment with education, making health information memorable and culturally relevant for diverse audiences, including those with limited literacy. The performances covered a range of themes such as sanitation, disease prevention, maternal and child health, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices. Through dramatized and relatable scenarios, the performers illustrated correct health behaviors while keeping audiences engaged and entertained.
This approach proved particularly effective in rural settings where conventional communication methods often failed to capture public interest. The plays encouraged community discussion and reflection as villagers observed familiar situations on stage and connected them to their own daily practices.
By bringing vital health messages directly to people in accessible and engaging formats, BGVK helped ensure that important information reached communities often missed by conventional health programs. The initiative contributed to stronger health awareness, better hygiene practices, and improved wellbeing across the Ahmednagar region.
