300 Awareness Session on Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders at Newasa Block in Ahmednagar District

Ahmednagar-October 2024: Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK) Ahmednagar, in collaboration with the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Society (PDMDS), organized an awareness and interactive session for senior citizens at Takali in Ahmednagar district. This initiative was part of the 'Healthy Ageing' project, supported by PDMDS.

The concept of healthy aging promotes physical, mental, and social well-being, enabling individuals to lead active, independent, and fulfilling lives as they age. The primary objective of this workshop was to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease and neurological disorders, aiming to improve the quality of life, independence, and overall health of older adults. The Healthy Ageing program addresses multiple aspects of aging, including physical fitness, nutrition, cognitive health, social engagement, and preventive healthcare.

Mr. Salve warmly welcomed the participants and explained the purpose of the program. Mrs. Bhavana Ghatvisave, a BGVK staff member, then conducted an orientation on various topics such as Art Therapy, Yoga, Physiotherapy, Counselling, Dance Therapy, Speech Therapy, Food and Nutrition, and related health issues. The interactive nature of the session encouraged many participants to ask questions, which were effectively answered by Mrs. Bhavana. Participants expressed their appreciation for BGVK's efforts and requested regular monthly sessions.

This collaboration between BGVK and PDMDS not only provided valuable information about Parkinson’s and neurological disorders but also fostered interactive learning and engagement, supporting the broader goal of promoting healthy aging within the community.
