283 Health ageing programme at Malichinchora in Newasa block
Ahmednagar- October 2024: Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), Ahmednagar, in collaboration with the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Society (PDMDS), conducted an awareness and interactive session for senior citizens at Malichinchora, Newasa in Ahmednagar district. This initiative was part of the 'Healthy Ageing' project, supported by PDMDS.
Healthy aging refers to the process of growing older while maintaining physical, mental, and social well-being, enabling individuals to lead active, independent, and fulfilling lives. The primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders, aiming to enhance the quality of life, independence, and overall health of older adults. The program covered a variety of important topics, including physical fitness, nutrition, cognitive health, social engagement, and preventive healthcare.
Mr. Salve warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the purpose of the session. Following this, Mrs. Bhavana Ghatvisave, a BGVK staff member, conducted an orientation on topics such as Art Therapy, Yoga, Physiotherapy, Counselling, Dance Therapy, Speech Therapy, Food and Nutrition, along with discussions on related health concerns. The session was highly interactive, encouraging participants to ask questions, which Mrs. Bhavana addressed expertly. Many attendees expressed their gratitude for BGVK's initiative and requested that such sessions be held regularly. This collaborative effort between BGVK and PDMDS not only provided valuable information on Parkinson’s disease and neurological disorders but also offered a platform for engagement and helping senior citizens better understand and manage their health.
