Ahilyanagar – May 2025 - Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), with the generous support of NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) and Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT), successfully implemented the construction of watershed structures in Mathani village under the ongoing Watershed Development Project.
This initiative aims to address the challenges of water scarcity and land degradation faced by the rural farming community. A series of scientifically designed watershed structures—including check dams, farm bunds, contour trenches and gully plugs—were constructed to promote rainwater harvesting, reduce soil erosion, and improve groundwater levels. These structures are vital for increasing soil moisture content, enhancing agricultural productivity, and ensuring sustainable use of natural resources in drought-prone areas like Mathani.
The project was executed with active community participation, fostering a spirit of ownership among local villagers. Farmers and residents of Mathani have already started witnessing the positive impact, with improved water availability for both irrigation and domestic use.
This collaborative initiative reflects the shared vision of BGVK, NABARD, and TPCDT to empower rural communities through sustainable resource management and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
