Ahmednagar - 2025: Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK) successfully organized vibrant Health Awareness Programmes through the traditional medium of Kala Pathak (street play) in the villages of Nandal and Survadi in the Phaltan block of Satara District. Conducted under the Rural Health and Nutrition Project and generously supported by Cummins India Foundation, the events witnessed enthusiastic participation from 239 community members, making them both impactful and deeply engaging.
By harnessing the cultural power of folk art, the Kala Pathak performances transformed vital health information into an accessible and entertaining format. This culturally resonant approach helped simplify complex health concepts, making them relatable and memorable for rural audiences.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome and introductory address by Mr. Abba Katkar, BGVK staff member, who provided insights into the objectives and activities of the Health and Nutrition Project. Following this, the Kala Pathak team delivered compelling performances on essential topics such as ICDS Schemes, Mid-Day Meal Programme, Poshan Saptah (Nutrition Week), vaccination, Janani Suraksha Yojana, and the importance of nutritious food and preventive healthcare.
Participants appreciated the lively and interactive nature of the event and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the initiative, acknowledging its effectiveness in raising awareness and encouraging healthier practices. This innovative fusion of tradition and health education once again demonstrated its capacity to foster informed communities and promote sustainable well-being at the grassroots level.
